History

This land was settled by the Lenni Lenape tribe originally and was officially established in 1693. Freehold Township grew throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. It was a center for farming, trade, and industry. In 1778 the Battle of Monmouth was fought here. The town’s rich history is celebrated today through its many historic sites and landmarks.

One of the most popular attractions in Freehold Township is the Freehold Raceway Mall. There are over 200 stores and restaurants inside. You can shop, dine and watch a movie all in one location. There is something for everyone here.
